Seller Keeps the Hammer

A private, multi-tenant auction club on the web — warm enough for collectors, sharp enough for the call.

SKTH (spoken “6th”) is being built so auction houses can run Gallery, Timed and Live sales. Sellers keep 100% of the hammer. The platform takes 5% from the buyer to cover hosting, platform and payment costs; a house may add its own percentage on top if it wishes.

What SKTH is

An auction house on the web — without the clerk-tool chill

SKTH is a millennial-collector auction house built for the browser: the warmth of Artsy or 1stDibs, not the stuffiness of a clerk console. The storefront softens rostrum language for collectors; the desk and projector may still speak clerk when the call demands it.

It is also a multi-tenant platform: each auction house gets its own branded storefront (and, when ready, a custom domain), while SKTH runs the shared bidding, catalogue and settlement machinery underneath.

Storefront

Collectors

Browse catalogues, bid, watch live lots, and pay invoices later — with all-in totals shown clearly (hammer, fee and Jersey GST on the fee).

Console

Auctioneer desk

A fast live call: Room versus Online, ask already in the amount box, Fair warning, then Hammer. Floor beats Online at the same pound.

Projector

The room TV

Last-call stamp reads Going, going… When the evening ends, the closed sale shows title, description and finished — not a leftover lot.

How it works

Simple paths for houses, sellers and collectors

The same product serves three roles. Below is the working model from the product wiki and repository docs — not a launch timetable.

01 · Auction houses

Auction houses

Onboard with concierge help today (self-serve later): branding, rates, increment table, staff login, first catalogue, then a dry run of Room / Online / Hammer before going live. Houses can use an interim host or point a custom domain when ready.

02 · Sellers

Sellers

Consign lots into a house sale. At the hammer, sellers keep 100% of the hammer. Buyers pay a 5% platform fee for hosting, platform and payment costs; the house can add its own percentage on top if it wishes. Settlement and payout follow the house’s agreed banking route — bank transfer once funds are clear.

Consign · Hammer · Payout

03 · Collectors & bidders

Collectors & bidders

Register for a sale, place bids or set a maximum on Timed lots, or bid into a Live call from the storefront. A paddle is per sale, not a global nickname. Bids are commitments — maxima can only go up.

Sale formats

Gallery, Timed and Live — on every house Sales page

Each house’s Sales page is organised into Gallery, Timed and Live. Timed and Live also show a calendar of upcoming sale days (Europe/Jersey calendar days).

Online auction

Timed

Lots close on a schedule with staggered ends and soft-close extensions when bids land late. Proxy maxima duel automatically.

  • Calendar of upcoming Timed sale days
  • Increment table drives the next ask
  • Reserves stay a house secret on the public catalogue

Saleroom

Live

Auctioneer runs the call from the console while collectors bid Online. Room bids are nameless until Hammer; Online already carries a paddle.

  • Room vs Online, ask prefilled, Fair warning → Hammer
  • Projector last-call: Going, going…
  • Live watching: current lot + running order, follow on/off

What’s being planned

Roadmap themes — no launch dates yet

Drawn from the SKTH Notion wiki and repository pilot notes. Items below are directional; nothing here is a public go-live commitment.

In motion or shipped in product

  • ShippedMulti-tenant houses with storefront, auctioneer console and projector; Timed and Live bidding; Gallery fixed-price sales.
  • ShippedCustom-domain support for house subdomains (CNAME to domains.skth.art); interim preview hosts for onboarding.
  • ShippedSocial post kit (v1): branded cards and editable captions from a lot, with deep links to the house domain.
  • In flightConcierge onboarding for community auction houses — manual white-glove now, self-serve later — with an open waitlist for houses that want in.

Parked or still to settle

  • ParkedCard checkout for buyers is being arranged; invoice / offline receipt mode exists for rehearsal in the meantime.
  • ParkedClient-money / escrow / Jersey trust rules — deliberately out of current UX waves until the funds-flow is agreed.
  • ParkedFurther Capture milestones (video, offline, AI descriptions) and an Android capture path beyond the shipped M1 cataloguing app.
  • OpenHouse fee percentage and any setup commercial terms remain choosable per house; the platform buyer fee stays at 5%.

Money stays in integer pence. Jersey GST (5%) applies on the house fee where enabled — never UK VAT. This page is a preview of the public holding presence; no launch date is announced here.
